The short answer
Taobao is normally cheapest for one or two accessories; 1688 becomes cheaper once you want roughly five or more of the same item. Search using the phone model in Chinese for far better results, and judge a listing by its own transaction count and buyer-submitted photos rather than by the shop’s overall rating.
Walk into any mall kiosk and a basic silicone phone case runs $20-30. That same case — often literally the same mould, same factory — is a low single-digit listing on Taobao before shipping. Chargers, cables, screen protectors, grips: this whole category is where North American retail markup is at its most extreme, because these are commodity accessories made by the same handful of factories regardless of which brand name ends up on the packaging.
Where to actually search
Taobao and 1688 both carry this category heavily. Taobao tends to have better per-unit prices for buying one or two of something; 1688 gets noticeably cheaper once you're buying five or more of the same item — useful if you want a couple of colours or extras for family. What to search for
Search by your phone model in Chinese if you can — for example "iPhone 15 手机壳" — because results are far more relevant on these Chinese-market listings than an English search. If you cannot type Chinese, the model number alone still gets you close enough to browse.
How to spot a good seller
- Check the transaction count on the specific listing, not just the shop overall — a shop can be old and reputable while a particular new listing has zero reviews.
- Look for buyer-submitted photos (买家秀). Real buyer photos are the single best signal that a listing is what it claims to be.
- Treat listings with only glossy stock-photo imagery and no buyer photos as a small yellow flag, not a dealbreaker.
- For chargers and cables specifically, prefer listings that state a wattage and a certification, and be sceptical of ones that state neither.
Power banks and loose lithium batteries are restricted or prohibited on passenger air freight. Cases, cables and screen protectors ship without issue; a battery-containing accessory may not be shippable at all, so check before ordering.
